Rock Hammering

Haliburton’s beautiful landscapes often hide solid bedrock just below the surface. What looks like an easy dig can quickly turn into a rock obstacle when excavating for a basement, trench, driveway, or foundation.

The material doesn’t go to waste. Once broken down, rock can often be gathered and relocated elsewhere on your property to reinforce driveways, improve road bases, support shoreline work, or enhance landscaping features.

When Bedrock Stands in the Way

Our rock hammering equipment is built to break through tough bedrock and oversized boulders efficiently and precisely. Depending on the size and hardness of the rock, we’ll assess the site and recommend the best solution for safe and effective removal.

Assessment of rock size, hardness, and conditions

Bedrock breaking for foundations and basements

Rock removal for driveways and private roads

Trenching through rock for utilities and septic systems

Breaking up large surface and buried boulders

Precision rock splitting in tight or sensitive areas

On-site rock downsizing for easier handling and relocation

A Controlled Alternative to Blasting

Rock hammering is often an effective alternative to blasting, offering a more controlled and predictable way to break rock. It’s well-suited for projects near homes, cottages, shorelines, and existing structures where precision and reduced impact are important.

Every site is different. Depending on the size, depth, and hardness of the rock, we assess the conditions and determine the best approach. In some cases, particularly with very large or extremely hard rock, blasting may still be required.

Benefits include:

Greater precision and control

Reduced vibration impact on surrounding structures

No blasting permits required

Safer for tight or confined spaces

No explosives required

Continuous, on-demand operation without scheduling delays
